Executive Producers: Snoop Dogg, John Carter Cash (son of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash and Exec Producer of Oscar-winning film Walk the Line), and Mathew Knowles for Music World Productions, Inc.
Co-Executive Producers: Brad Turcotte for Music World Music and Gregg DeMammos. Gregg's career started as part of Moby's management team. He was single-handedly responsible for creating music licensing as a strategic element in marketing a record and secured most of the essential licenses that catapulted Play to sales of nearly 10 million records worldwide. He has overseen remixes of Elvis, The Rolling Stones, Marvin Gaye, Steppenwolf, Billie Holiday, The Bee Gees and others.
OVERVIEW Music World licensed 20 classic Johnny Cash tracks from legendary Sun Records (first label home of Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Roy Orbison, among others). Johnny Cash is an icon of American music. His work has touched every contemporary genre, from Rock to Pop, from Emo to Hip Hop. The exciting possibility presented by the Sun catalog is "what would have been?" These tracks were recorded with Cash's band, the Tennessee Two, and were pure and stark, with only the essentials; guitar, light percussion and Johnny's unmistakable voice and presence. The challenge is to maintain this fantastic charm and personality while filing out the sound and creating bold re-interpretations. The remix producer's reverence and gratitude are essential to the process. The goal is to bring the sensibility and technology of 2008 to recordings universally accepted as timeless with the blessing and support of the custodians of Johnny Cash's legacy.
